How Can I Adjust My Financial Aid to Only One Semester?

Information
If you are not graduating, are attending ASU for one semester and you have been awarded for fall and spring:

1. Submit a letter to Financial Aid and Scholarship Services stating which semester you will not be attending ASU and request that semester's aid be cancelled. Be sure to include your full name and ASU ID number.
2. Your cost of attendance, your student aid index from the FAFSA and your awards will be adjusted to one semester.

In most cases, a reduction of your cost of attendance will reduce your financial aid eligibility and result in a reduction of some of your awards (even if you have already accepted them).

Award adjustment details
  • Grants are awarded based on a per semester basis. If grants are awarded during a semester you are not attending, the grants will be canceled.
  • Your Federal Direct Loans will be offered at half of your annual limit and will not be prorated.
  • If you were originally offered aid for the fall and spring semesters AND do not end up attending the fall semester, your entire aid package will be cancelled mid-fall (i.e., October). If you plan on attending spring only, please submit a letter to our office stating that you will attend ASU for spring only and to adjust your awards as necessary.
  • If you will be attending ASU for spring only and you want to be offered your full annual loan limit in spring, please include that information in your letter. ASU will verify that you have not reached your annual loan limit and have not exceeded your one semester cost of attendance before offering more than half your annual loan limit.
