If you have failed to register for the Selective Service before your 26th birthday, you may still be eligible to receive aid if you can demonstrate that you did not knowingly and willfully fail to register.
To document that you did not knowingly and willfully fail to register, upload the items below:
1. A copy of your
Selective Service Status Information Letter. You can request this letter on the
Selective Service website or by calling 847-688-6888.
2. A
signed personal statement to explain why your failure to register was not knowing or willful. Be sure to include:
a) where you were living between the ages 18 to 25.
b) whether or not you thought you registered and the method used if attempted.
c) if applicable, why you were not aware of the widely publicized requirement to register when you were age 18 to 25.
d) if applicable, the date you first entered the U.S., your immigration status at that time and the date you applied for permanent residency or U.S. citizenship.
e) any other information pertinent to your Selective Service registration.
3. Any documentation supporting the claim in your signed personal statement (i.e., I-94, signed copy of your passport with all the entry date stamps, etc.)
Decisions will be based on the quality of the upload documentation. The decision of ASU is final and cannot be appealed with the U.S. Department of Education. If your documentation is insufficient, you may upload additional documentation for reconsideration.
