The federal government requires schools to verify the income reported on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
for some financial aid recipients. The verification process ensures that you receive all the financial aid for which you are eligible. You are only required to submit tax information for your parents when the priority task list item is posted on your MyASU.
You may be able to complete this requirement by making a correction to your FAFSA and utilize the IRS Data Retrieval Tool
or by requesting a copy of your parent's signed tax return. However, if you were not required to file taxes, you can still fulfill this requirement by submitting a Verification of Non-tax Filing Letter from the IRS.Please note:
The federal government publishes guidelines each year with tax filing requirements
. All federal aid recipients are expected comply with published tax laws. Any conflicting information will need to be resolved before a financial aid award can be posted.
If your parent will file a tax return, but have applied for an extension, please discuss your circumstance with a financial aid counselor
to ensure you meet all deadlines.
