Information
ASU recognizes that many students are not ready to choose a specific academic program of study when first entering the university. This program allows you the option to declare Exploratory status, which permits you to begin meeting General Studies requirements that all ASU graduates must fulfill while affording you some time to explore a variety of academic courses that may lead to a potential major interest.

There are four tracks in the Exploratory program you can choose from! Each provides additional foundational preparation to declare a major:
All ASU students are required to complete general studies, major requirements and electives.  Some general studies courses are those you would expect like English and Math, but others include Social Behavioral Sciences, Humanities/Fine Arts, and Lab Sciences, as well as others.

You may be considering majors that fall into more than one track and your advisor can help prepare you for multiple majors by using ASU General Studies requirements strategically to prepare you for multiple options. In example, PSY 101 is a general studies course, but it is also a major requirement for students in Business, Architecture, Nursing, and Psychology.

All Exploratory students enroll in a one-credit Major and Career Exploration course each semester. These courses are designed to help you research and explore major and career options. You can remain in Exploratory for up to three semesters (45 credits). However, you may declare a major that you are eligible for at any time.
