Why do I have to pay for parking?

Information
The Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR) requires that parking shall not be free for university students, faculty or staff. ABOR also requires ASU Parking and Transit Services (PTS) to operate as a self-funded department of the university. This means that no tuition, student fees or State money is allocated into the PTS budget. You're not paying a student fee for parking and transportation services in addition to paying for a parking permit.

All the revenue PTS generates from selling parking permits, collecting visitor parking fees and citation payments is reinvested back into the PTS budget. The money pays for campus shuttle services, subsidized transit passes (the ASU U-Pass), plus parking facility maintenance and other university initiatives.
